Poles

Our advanced light poles go beyond basic street lighting. At Multipole, we design and manufacture multifunctional poles that integrate lighting with smart technologies such as various signage, CCTV & security equipment, banner arms and solar options, 4G/5G equipment, Traffic Signals and more. Ideal for smart cities, campuses, and commercial developments.

Frequently Asked Questions About Light Poles

Are all poles multifunctional by default?

While many poles can support accessories, Multipole™ is uniquely built with an internal coupling system that allows smart technologies to be integrated directly. This design eliminates the need for external strapping and ensures long-term adaptability for future devices and applications.

Is aluminium strong enough to be used in light poles?

Yes, our light poles are made from Marine Grade Series 6000 structural aluminium — a material also used in yacht masts. It offers strength comparable to mild steel. For high-wind areas, we include optional internal strengthening sleeves. Every pole is independently certified by qualified engineers for structural integrity.

Will aluminium light poles rust or corrode?

Aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant and does not rust, making it ideal for marine and coastal locations. Unlike steel, which corrodes from the inside, aluminium offers a longer lifespan. However, in environments with strong alkaline exposure, aluminium is not recommended due to chemical reactions that may affect the surface.

What finishes do your aluminium poles come with?

We offer several finishes including mill finish (untreated), anodised, and powder coated. Our standard is a 20–25μm clear anodised coating, known for its durability. Colour anodising is available in select shades, and powder coating is offered in a wide range of colours to meet project needs.

How do you maintain aluminium light poles?

Maintenance is minimal. The anodised surface helps poles stay clean during rain. In tougher environments, cleaning may be done using water, steam, or gentle solvents like methylated spirits. Avoid using alkaline or abrasive cleaners, especially on anodised or powder-coated finishes.

Are aluminium poles environmentally sustainable?

Yes, aluminium poles have a lower carbon footprint than steel ones, especially over their full lifespan. Aluminium is also fully recyclable and weighs about one-third as much as steel, reducing transport and installation impact.

Where do you source your aluminium from?

For Australian projects, most of the aluminium we use is sourced from Northern Queensland and extruded in Melbourne. We fabricate the poles in Sydney and, for larger profiles, may also extrude overseas when required. We also export Australian-made extrusions for global use.

Can I request custom-designed light poles?

Absolutely. Our modular system allows us to tailor poles to suit your design and functional needs. We can adjust features and appearances based on specific requirements to deliver a unique, customised product.

What kind of footing is needed for installing the poles?

Typically, our poles are installed on reinforced concrete piers up to 600mm in diameter. The required depth varies based on pole height, loads, and soil type. Lighter than steel, aluminium poles are often more economical to install. For shallow foundations, we offer pad or cantilevered mounting options. While we can provide general guidelines, we recommend having site-specific footing designs done by a qualified engineer.
